XMLTV is the standard XML format for TV programme listings. IPTV players such as TiviMate, IPTV Smarters, Kodi and OTT Navigator load an XMLTV file (often named guide.xml or epg.xml.gz) to show a channel guide alongside your M3U playlist.

What does the validator check?

It checks that the file is well-formed XML, that the root element is , that each has an id, that each references an existing channel and has a start/stop, and that dates follow the XMLTV format (YYYYMMDDHHMMSS with an optional timezone).

Can I validate a gzipped .xml.gz file?

Not directly, decompress it first (right-click → Extract, or 7-Zip on Windows, gunzip on macOS/Linux). XMLTV providers usually publish a .xml.gz to save bandwidth, but the actual XML inside is what you validate.

What is an orphan programme?

An orphan programme is a entry that points to a channel id which has no matching declaration in the file. Some players silently drop these, others show "unknown channel". The validator highlights them so you can fix the source feed.

Is my EPG file uploaded to a server?

No. The validation runs entirely in your browser using the built-in DOMParser. Your XMLTV file is never uploaded to our servers.
